Present status:

                    A feasibility study for the Project has been prepared by the Water and Power
Development Authority (WAPDA) in April 1996.

Location:

Naulong storage dam is to be located on Mula river at Sunt about 30 km from Gandava city in Tehsil and district Jhal Magsi.

Aim:

The aim of this multi purpose Dam project is to provide Irrigation water to 25,337 acres of fertile land of Kachi plain. vbnvvbnv                                         

Proposed Investments:

The total project cost is estimated at Rs 2,556 million including the foreign exchange component of Rs 1,022 million including Rs 10 million for the compensation cost for resettlement. The time required for construction will be 5 years. A period of 1.5 years will be required before this for carrying out detail design, preparation of documents and award of contract.

Expected Benefits:

The proposed cropping pattern of the project includes orchards, vegetables, fodder, food grains, cotton and oil seed crops. An average annual cropping intensity of 111.0% consisting of 49% Kharif and 62% Rabi will be achieved on the right bank of Mula river within 6 years. Similarly annual cropping intensity of 70% will be achieved on left side consisting of 28.5% in Kharif and 41.5% in Rabi.

The project will provide 85,000 acre ft of additional storage. The project benefits also include development of fresh water fish industry in the pond area, increased job opportunities to the locals, and increase in earning of the farmers due to increased area.

Updated Investment Costs and Economic Indicators:

The updated financial investment costs (including physical contingencies, at 2000-01 constant prices) amount to PKR 3784.15 million. Based on the updated benefits associated with the expected production gains and the updated economic investment costs, the EIRR has been recalculated as 7.1% and the N/K ratio as 0.62

Social Impact:

The project will provide job opportunities to the local people, It will also provide an increase in income of the local farmers by increasing the Irrigation area. The project will also develop fish industry in the area.
